Artist Biography
Tapestry is a minor art form that is one of the oldest forms of woven textile. As both art and craft, the cloth is constructed at the same time as the design. Tapestries can be both decorative and functional textiles—wall art, a rug, a piece of cloth.
I weave contemporary tapestry, as well as other functional textiles, on either a large, complex floor loom, or a basic, homemade pipe-frame loom. The basic technique is the same. I use wool, cotton, and linen yarn, often handspun and often hand dyed with locally sourced natural dye plants.
My images tend toward respecting the geometric grid of the loom but sometimes veer off in unplanned directions and lead to unexpected outcomes.
