Deena Altman & Helen Shafer Garcia, Co-Jurors for Artwork Selection & Awards
Deena Altman spent many years as the Vice President of Marketing for her national horticultural company, Altman Plants. She guided the marketing and graphic development of many plant products, including nationwide plant brands for home improvement chains. She is now a full-time artist, following her passion for painting. Within 13 years, she achieved signature status in several prestigious societies, including The American Watercolor Society, The Watercolor Honor Society, and The San Diego Watercolor Society. She has also served on the board of The National Watercolor Society. Her paintings have been juried into numerous museums and international exhibitions, including the prestigious American Watercolor Society International Exhibition in New York, the MEAM Museum in Barcelona, The Springfield Art Museum, our own Signature Exhibition, and a solo show of her 8-painting series, “Female Rising”, at the Oceanside Museum of Art.
Helen Shafer Garcia is a painter (watercolor and book arts), ceramicist, and award winning illustrator. For more than 40 years, Helen’s watercolor illustrations have graced the covers of brochures, garden articles and advertisements for a number of international resorts and magazines. Her awards include four San Diego Press Club First Place Awards of Excellence in Illustration for San Diego Home/Garden Lifestyles Magazine. Helen holds a B.A. degree in Fine Arts with an emphasis in illustration and ceramics. She is a signature member of the San Diego Watercolor Society and teaches college level watercolor, book arts, and mixed media workshops internationally and across the US. She is also the department head of painting, drawing, and mixed media at Fallbrook School of the Arts.
