About the Theme

The 29th annual exhibition, From Stone to Light, explores the profound intersection of glass art and mental well-being. It celebrates the unique alchemy of the medium—how sand and earth transform through patience and fire into vessels of light—as a striking mirror for human resilience, healing, and connection. For our 29th Annual Glass Show, we invite artists to submit work that engages with these themes of transformation, resilience, healing, or connection, presenting a unique opportunity to showcase a breadth of diversity within this specialized medium. Please join us for the opening reception on Saturday, September 12, from 4 to 6 p.m.

Curator’s Biography

Kazuki Takizawa uses glass as a powerful tool to explore his inner reality, giving tangible shape to unseen worlds. His sculptural vessels and large-scale installations are deeply influenced by his lived experience as an artist living with bipolar disorder. Growing up in a Japanese community in Hong Kong, he turned to visual arts as his means of personal expression; today, his contemporary  practice directly aims to destigmatize mental illness. After graduating from the University of Hawaii at Manoa with a BFA in glass art in 2009, Takizawa established his  practice in California. He currently runs his independent glassblowing studio, KT Glassworks, in the historic West Adams neighborhood of Los Angeles.

Curator’s statement

"Fire is the ultimate transformer, making the art of glassmaking unlike any other medium. But fire also fuses; its warmth acts as a source of energy that brings people together and connects us. Today, we can appreciate the craftsmanship of this work not for what it does, but how its alchemy makes us feel, heal, and reflect. Through this shared passion, it is glass that ties us artists together in a special, tight-knit way. The knowledge of glassmaking has been passed down for centuries, and this exhibition honors that deep tradition and relational presence.

The sharp contrast of these contemporary works against the historic town of Fallbrook mirrors how the technical sophistication of glass harmonizes with its inherent simplicity. There is excitement in the volatility of the fire that shapes the process—but the process ends with a cooling phase, and the stability and clarity that it brings. Glass is a medium of dualities, reflections, and inner resilience. I am pleased to showcase the profound beauty of glass through the luminous vision of our artists."

Eligibility

• Entries must be made of glass.

• Entries must be original, created entirely by the artist.

• Artwork altered in any way after entry is submitted will be disqualified.

• All work must be available for sale. Once entered, the selling price cannot be altered.

Fallbrook Art Center reserves the right to withhold any work from display, including unsuitably presented, or misrepresented work.

Sales

Artwork must be for sale. Exhibited works will be consigned for sale at the price submitted on the inventory form. Fallbrook Art Center will handle all sales, collection, reporting, and payment of applicable sales tax. Artists are responsible for all tax reporting.

Commission on Sales

Fallbrook Art Center will retain 40% of the retail price and the artist will receive 60% of the retail price.

Payment to the Artist

Commission checks are issued, at minimum, on a monthly basis. All commissions for the month will be paid out  no later than the second week of the following month.

Insurance

Insurance for works selected for the exhibition is the responsibility of the artist.

Use Rights

By submitting your artist entry form, artists whose submissions are chosen for the Show grant Fallbrook Art Center the right to use their images for the purpose of marketing the show. Artists grant the use of their image(s) as stated without further contact or compensation. We reserve the right to photograph work for publicity purposes.

• Accepted artists will receive specific delivery instructions.

• Inbound and outbound shipping costs and insurance are the responsibility of the artist.

• Please package your work securely to ensure it won’t be damaged during shipment.

• Fallbrook Art Center is not responsible for any damage incurred during shipping.

• Unsold artwork will be shipped back to the artist at the end of the exhibition.

• A prepaid return label is required for all shipped artwork. 

Note on Return Shipping: Because managing unscheduled return shipping requires manual coordination outside our standard gallery workflow, any artwork received without a prepaid return label will incur a $50 manual processing and handling fee prior to its return.

How to Submit an Entry 

• All entries must be submitted through our online form.

• You may submit up to 5 works.

• Digital photos submitted must be JPEG or PNG format, between 1MB-5MB.

• Video files must be submitted in MP4, MOV, or WMV format, no bigger than 2.5GB.

Exhibition Entry Fee

For non-guild artists: $50 non-refundable entry fee due at the time of form completion.

For guild artists: $40 non-refundable entry fee due at the time of form completion.

Accepted entries

• All accepted artists will receive an email from the Exhibition and Membership Manager, with further instructions and deadlines for delivery, no later than August 5.

• The delivery window is August 6 - 29. Shipped pieces must be received during this period. Artwork not received by August 29 will be disqualified.

Opening Night Reception

Artists are strongly encouraged to arrive at 3:30pm, the same time as our Friends members, to meet them and have the opportunity to talk about your art. This event is free and open to the public from 4pm-6pm.
