Artist Biography
Bev is a self-taught fiber artist, inspired by World Travel with her husband Lou. Beginning in the mid 1980's up through 2020, they visited over 50 countries and islands. Some of those countries included Mexico, Guatemala, all of South America, India, Bhutan, Thailand, Kenya, Tanzania, Morocco, Tunisia, Italy, Spain, Croatia, Slovenia, Turkey, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, New Zealand, and Australia. Along the way, Bev collected colorful folk art, textiles, tassels, animal adornments, and ethnic jewelry.
During the 1990s, Bev and Lou met many like-minded artists of various disciplines from Southern California. This prompted them to establish an annual "Artisan's Market" on their property. There were 40 plus artists represented and the very successful event was attended by over 1500 people. Eventually, Artisan's Market was relocated as an ethnic gallery on Cedros Ave. in Solana Beach. It is noteworthy that Bev and Lou were chosen to decorate the Social Studies and Ethnic Studies Departments at the University of California San Diego in addition to three local hospices where colorful textiles and art created a more uplifting atmosphere.
Now, with Bev and Lou retired and no longer traveling, Bev's continuing interest and passion regarding handcrafted ethnic art still exists. She now keeps herself, and Lou, involved in handcrafted art under the name "Ethnic Expressions" using the remaining "stash" of materials they have collected over the years traveling. Bev's one-of-a-kind ethnic figures are a collage of pieces representing many cultures of the world and range in size from 6 inches to 3 feet.
Her work is now shown exclusively at the Fallbrook Art Center.
