Safoora
Terani
Safoora Terani is an Iranian-American artist and art educator whose practice is rooted in figurative painting, realism, and expressive visual storytelling. Born and raised in Mashhad, Iran, she began studying art at age nine and entered formal training in traditional Persian miniature painting at fourteen. She later attended Mashhad’s first art and architecture high school, where exposure to Western artistic traditions broadened her approach to composition, movement, color, and form. After immigrating to the United States in 1998, Terani earned an Associate Degree in Fine Arts from Santa Monica College. Her work has been exhibited at the Showcase Gallery in Irvine and at the Mehregan Persian Festival of Autumn. In 2022, two of her paintings received first and second place awards at the Sunset Beach Art Festival. Terani has continued to refine her practice through study with figurative painter Joseph Todorovitch and intensive painting retreats led by Costa Dvorezky in Menorca, Spain, and Tuscany, Italy. Travel plays an important role in her creative process. She frequently works from photographs she takes herself during her journeys, using these personal visual records as references for paintings that explore atmosphere, place, memory, and human presence. Alongside her studio practice, Terani has taught art for more than twenty-five years to students of diverse ages and backgrounds. Her work reflects a continuing dialogue between her Persian artistic heritage, lived experience, and contemporary figurative expression.
