Lucy
Fitzmaurice
Biography
Lucy is a self taught artist, whose hand has wandered through color and texture since childhood, always chasing the light and whimsy of nature. Her work moves gently from the lush greens of flora and fauna to the shimmering seas, always with the company of her cats.
Lucy has been drawing and painting for as long as she can remember, using whatever was at hand-markers, colored pencils, acrylics, oil pastels and even embroidery and gardening as creative touch points. She delights in painting scenes from nature: the oceans moods, quiet landscapes and the familiar gestures of her fur babies. These subjects recur like friendly landmarks throughout her work.
For a couple of years, Lucy stepped away from painting. After a shared pause of COVID lockdowns, the creative motivation returned and she picked up her brushes again eager and renewed.
Only about four years ago, Lucy started dabbling in gouache and watercolor. In that time, she found her favorite home in watercolor, enhanced with mixed media touches.
Lucy loves adding metallic paints with iridescent and pearlescent washes that catch the light and invite a second look, balancing delicate washes with playful shimmer and sparkles. Lucy’s art is vibrant, whimsical and fairytale-like, rooted in the beauty of animals, nature and landscapes.
