Alisa May

From a very young age, Alisa May displayed an aptitude for art and a deep, enduring love of animals and nature from which she continues to draw inspiration.  As a visual art major at the Los Angeles County High School for the Arts (LACHSA), she became familiar with a diverse range of media including Chinese brush painting, figure drawing, and illustration. Alisa later deepened her understanding of form and composition when she earned a Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Southern California (USC). Her interest in ecology then led her to attain a Master’s of Environmental Management from Yale University. During this time she developed a profound concern for the preservation of the natural world and the wildlife that inhabits it. Today, May's art combines her diverse artistic influences with a mystical sense of wonder and fragility of nature. Expressive and detailed, her animal portraits emerge from fields of color and geometric patterns.  This juxtaposition of controlled realism and free expression enables May to capture those sublime, spiritual qualities of nature that defy realism alone.  Alisa May is currently based in Southern California. She travels at every opportunity to explore wildlife with an ever-deepening appreciation of the interconnectedness of the earth and mankind.
