FALLBROOK – An open juried art show called "All’s Fair in Art… Again" is now on display at the Fallbrook Art Center.

The show, judged by premier collectors Dr. Steven and Colleen Aichle, provides an interesting sampling in a wide variety of media including sculpture, mosaic, paintings of various subjects, and basketry, including a twisted woven sculpture.

First place in the show went to oil painter Howard Barsky for his live, nude model painting "Deanne." While his specialty is large-scale flowers, Barsky has only recently practiced painting from live nude models.

Second place was bestowed upon "Exploring Too," a twisted woven sculpture created by Peggy Wiedemann.

Third place was awarded to Carol Landry’s "Lounging" and an honorable mention was given to "Dangerous At Dusk" by Joe A. Oakes.

The nature of a judged show is fundamentally subjective. The same show submissions with different judges would most likely yield different results. Presenting awards in such a varied show can be challenging and controversial.

Opening night responses proved the subjective nature of judging, as controversy over works awarded was forefront.

Visitors are encouraged to the show and invited to share their viewpoints in a comment book provided for that purpose in the gallery.

"All’s Fair in Art… Again" is open daily through June 26. Hours are: Monday through Saturday 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 3 p.m. Admission is $5, Members are free. The art center is located at 103 S. Main, Fallbrook. For more information, call (760) 728-1414 or visit
